FIREFIGHTERS spent about two hours battling a fire in the basement of a hairdresser’s salon in Pershore on Wednesday night.

Crews from Pershore and Evesham were called to the blaze at Hairatage on Bridge Street at about 6.10pm on October 16 and used breathing apparatus and a hosereel to put out the flames.

The road was initially closed by police to allow firefighters access to the building but re-opened later with officers directing traffic.

It is believed that an electrical fault was the cause of the fire and crews shut off the power to the building before it was fixed.

No one was hurt in the incident and damage was thought to be minimal. The emergency services remained on the scene until about 9.30pm.
