Worcestershire history film project tells the moving story of 11 Second World War veterans
LOCAL people who fought in the Second World War are featuring in a short film for Remembrance Day.
‘We Did Our Bit’ is an 11-minute film which features moments of courage and terror, horror and heroics from 11 men and women who served in the armed forces in a project that has been supported by Worcestershire County Council.
They include Jim London, from Worcester, who was an able seaman, grenadier guard Ron Hill, of Bredon, Arthur Rollins, of Worcester, who was a mule handler and Effie Palfrey, of Pershore, an auxiliary territorial service planner.
Schools, colleges, community groups and businesses from across the county are being encouraged to share the film ahead of Remembrance Day on November 11.
Organisations now have the opportunity to get hold of a copy of the limited edition DVD to view and share the veterans' experiences and tales.
Councillor Rob Adams, chairman of Worcestershire Armed Forces Community Covenant Working Group and county councillor for Upton Snodsbury, said: “I’d like to encourage schools, community groups and businesses to get in touch with us to get hold of a copy of the 11- minute long DVD.
“The aim of the film is to raise awareness in Worc-estershire of the elderly ex-armed forces personnel in our midst and recognise their contributions and sacrifices during that time.
“This DVD provides a way to remind everyone – especially the young – what sacrifices, bravery and courage our local ex-servicemen displayed.”
The project is being funded through an armed forces community covenant grant. The video is available as a historical archive at the Hive in Worcester or people can watch a screening at 11am on Monday, November 11, at the Hive, where some of the veterans who took part in the film will be attending.
