WYCHAVON District Council is celebrating a flush of success at the Loo of the Year Awards.

The council entered 12 of its public toilets – in Broadway, Droitwich, Evesham and Pershore – into this year’s annual competition held by the British Toilet Association.

The awards are open to toilets in all sorts of public places including shops, hospitality and leisure venues, public transport, and those provided by local authorities.

Six of Wychavon’s entries were awarded platinum standard – High Street, Pershore; Waterside, Old Brewery and Viaduct Meadow in Evesham; the Activity Park in Broadway; and the Lido at Droitwich – and the other six received gold standard – Church Walk, Pershore; Oat Street and Abbey Park in Evesham; Church Close and Milestone Ground in Broadway; and St Andrew’s Square, Droitwich.

Sharon Casswell, client services manager at Wychavon, said: “I’m so pleased once again that our toilets are meeting such very high standards. We manage our facilities well and are helped enormously by Mitie and the attendants. Residents and visitors alike continue to give us excellent feedback on our facilities and this is just as satisfying as any award.”

The Activity Park public toilet in Broadway was the winner of the national award for the ‘best unattended public toilet’, and the High Street toilets in Pershore were the winners of the ‘best car park public toilet’ category. Toilet attendants based at the High Street, Oat Street and Viaduct Meadow, Church Close, and St Andrew’s Square, were awarded ‘attendant of the year’ awards for providing a high level of commitment to a vital public service.

The results mean that Wychavon is now seventh in the national Local Authority Premier League, up from 10th in 2012, as well as being in the Loo of the Year ‘champions league’, which recognises the national top 29 providers of toilets of excellent standard. The awards were received by Councillor Ron Davis, Sharon Casswell, and Julian Yeo, client services monitoring assistant at a presentation at St John’s Hotel in Solihull, Birmingham.
