A COLLECTION of First World War medals along jewellery including two wedding rings and two engagement rings and $500 in cash were stolen from house in Worcester over the weekend.

The residents of the house in St John’s returned home yesterday after a weekend away to find their home had been broken into through a window.

Neighbours said they saw lights in the house during the evening on Friday, December 20 and police said it is likely this is when the burglary took place.

Along with the five medals and cash thieves also stole an 18 carat gold wedding ring, an 18 carat engagement ring with three diamonds, a white gold engagement ring with a single diamond, a man’s gold engagement ring with a band in the shape of the buckle and a collection of antique jewellery.

Detective Constable Thomas Birchley is investigating the incident and said: “The homeowners have lost a lot of items of very high sentimental value and I cannot image a worse way to start the Christmas holidays.

“If anyone saw any suspicious activity around Malvern Road or Lower Wick, which is connected to Sherwood Lane by a footpath, then please contact the police immediately.

“And if anyone has seen jewellery or medals for sale in dubious circumstances, please let us know.”
