FULL time has been called on Worcester City’s famous St George’s Lane ground after bulldozers moved in.

The historic stadium is being demolished, having been handed over to developers Careys New Homes last summer.

Club bosses say the final stages of the demolition mark the end of an era for City, who are currently ground-sharing with Kidderminster Harriers at Aggborough.

“It’s the final act of a proud history dating back to 1905,” said vice-chairman Colin Layland.

“She was an old lady in need of repair which we could not afford.”

The picture shows one of the cranes that has moved in to tear down the entire structure. The project should be complete within a couple of days.

Mr Layland has a host of memories from St George’s Lane, the best being an FA Cup giant-killing before 15,000 fans.

The club is still in talks with Worcester City Council over a possible move to the Perdiswell area of Worcester.
