CHILDREN from a Droitwich school showed their support for a challenge being taken on by a team of blind footballers.

Youngsters from St Joseph's Catholic Primary School, Ombersley Way, had a visit from West Bromwich Albion's two mascots, Baggie Bird and Albi.

Children walked around their school field whist blindfolded so they were more aware of disability issues. They also used the event to show their support for the members of West Bromwich Albion's Blind Football Team.

A team of five footballers are to embark on a challenge of a lifetime in a bid to raise money for the club’s charity arm, The Albion Foundation.

Simon Hill, 28, Muhammad Ibraheem Iqbal, 15, Ian McNamara, 30, Shammi Ral, 18, and Darren Harris, 40, will be walking 86 miles from Anfield to The Hawthorns ahead of the Barclays Premier League clash between Albion and Liverpool on Sunday, February 2.

With the support of their guides, the B1 Blind Team players will begin the six-day walk on Monday, January 27, and aim to raise ÂŁ10,000 to help the charity continue to support them and the other ten disability teams within The Albion Foundation.

Teacher Helen Smith, from St Joseph's, said: "The children had a really enjoyable day but also learned an important message as well.

"They wanted to show their support for the challenge that the blind footballers will be doing."
