Nyree and Sascha Kindred, new Honorary Presidents of Hereford and Worcester Scout Association, with outgoing Honorary President, David Blakey
TWO Paralympian swimmers have been named as the new honorary presidents for the Hereford and Worcester Scouts.
The group was delighted to welcome the couple, Nyree Kindred MBE and Sasha Kindred OBE, also known as the UK’s golden couple for their outstanding success in the pool.
Between them Nyree and Sascha hold 22 Paralympic medals, along with dozens of awards for swimming.
They take over the honorary role from David Blakey CBE, QPM and Deputy Lord Lieutenant for Worcestershire after five years.
At a ceremony to welcome the newcomers Dr. Derek Barnes, Hereford and Worcester County Commissioner thanked David Blakey for his years as president and warmly welcomed Sascha and Nyree saying ”what an honour it was to have them as our next Honorary Presidents”.
The official Presidential handover took place at the Worcestershire Golf Club in December.
During the evening a number of Honorary Scouters Certificates were also presented.
The title Honorary Scouter is given to a leader, manager or supporter who retires after many years of dedicated service and the newly appointed honorary presidents began their role presenting certificates to six former County Commissioners and County Vice Presidents, who between them have accumulated well over 200 years of service to the Scout Association.
These were Arthur Davis, John Constance, Carol Thomson, Mac Sneath, Vic Morgan and Paul Etheridge.
The success of Scouting in the county means there are still more than 500 young people waiting to join a group and the Evesham District is seeking a new District Commissioner. Anyone over 18 who is interested in helping should visit hwscouts.org.uk for more information or email email@example.com concerning the commissioner position.
