THE landmark 1000th Morgan 3 Wheeler has rolled off a busy production line.

The Malvern-based Morgan Motor Company launched the vehicle at the 2011 Geneva Motorshow and originally intended to sell about 300 cars, so the milestone figure shows it has proved to be a huge hit with motoring enthusiasts.

In recognition of the 180 craftsmen at the Pickersleigh Road factory, the 1000th vehicles features each of their names in two continuous pinstripes around the lower edging of the body.

Company spokesman, James Gilbert, said: “We are delighted to have built the 1000th new Morgan 3 Wheeler. To have built 1000 of such a niche vehicle represents the huge efforts of our employees, dealers and suppliers as well as the continued support from both new and existing customers who are so important to our brand and everything we do.

"As the last British owned car manufacturer and with over 70 per cent of our vehicles being exported, we are delighted to be playing a small part in the global success of UK automotive manufacture.”

The 1000th car will be kept by the company and displayed at the factory, while production of the 3 Wheeler will continue in order to satisfy a full order book.

Its design was inspired by the original 1909 Runabout, using the same exterior and interior colour schemes and its completion also coincies with the launch of an updated and revised 2014 model.

The new version includes changes in the chassis, centre drive unit and bevel box as well as an upgraded cooling pack and steering improvements as well as the introduction of new graphics and paint options.
