DETECTIVES investigating the serious sexual assault of a teenage girl are appealing for witnesses.

The incident happened at about 7pm on Saturday when a large group of teenagers made their way from Vine Park, Droitwich, along Kidderminster Road and then on to the Westlands estate.

During this journey one of the girls became detached from the rest and was sexually assaulted by another member of the group.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, a 16-year-old boy from Droitwich was arrested in connection to the incident and released on Monday afternoon on police bail pending further inquiries.

Detective Sergeant Kate Stevens said: “This offence is very serious and involves young people, however, I would like to reassure residents of Droitwich that such offences are very rare.

“A thorough investigation is taking place and we are now trying to piece together what happened on Saturday evening.

“I would like to appeal for anyone to contact us who may have witnessed or heard anything in Vines Park or Westlands estate during this time that may be of Interest to the Investigation.”

The group met in the park at about 4pm on Saturday to socialised and some were drinking.
