THE nursery at the centre of a police investigation has reassured parents that "no children are at risk" despite a member of staff being arrested.

An employee of Bright Kids, Evesham Road, Redditch, was arrested in what West Mercia Police labelled an "isolated incident" after the force was contacted by a parent on Monday.

The member of staff has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

A statement from Bright Kids said: "We can confirm West Mercia Police has arrested a member of staff at the Crabbs Cross branch of Bright Kids nursery.

"We are fully supportive of the police investigation and we would like to reassure parents that our main concern is for the welfare of all the children in our care and we have strict safeguarding procedures in place.

"The police have said that given the actions that have already been undertaken, that they have no ongoing concerns for the safeguarding of the children and that no children are at risk."

The statement added: "A parents meeting has been arranged for parents whose children attend the nursery at 6pm today (Thursday) when the police and senior staff will be in attendance."

Detective Superintendent Steve Cullen of West Mercia Police said the force was speaking with the parent and child concerned as well as working with its partner agencies including Worcestershire County Council's children's services and Ofsted.

The inquiry is not linked to the ongoing investigation into allegations of sexual abuse at Bright Eyes Nurseries, which had branches at Bromsgrove, Redditch and Droitwich.

Concerned parents can call the nursery management on 01527 452430 or the police on the non-emergency number 101.
