HISTORICAL events will be acted out in Worcester city centre on Saturday by a team of passionate re-enactors as they set the scene for a weekend of looking back.

The Worcester Re-enactors will be at Bell Square in CrownGate shopping centre from 9am until lunchtime entertaining shoppers as they recreate periods of history, dressing the flamboyant costumes of the time.

The purpose of the event is to remind people of an event taking place the following weekend at the Commandery in Worcester.

Living History in Worcester is taking place on Saturday and Sunday, February 15 and 16, and will see residents and visitors treated to a weekend of 2,000 years of history.

Organised by Museums Worcestershire in partnership with The Worcester Re-enactors and part of The Love Worcester Heritage Festival this year’s event will be extra special as it will mark the ten year anniversary of the Living History event.

The event is the biggest of its kind in the region with more than 150 re-enactors set to join in the weekends activities, which include show and tell displays, military drill displays for the periods, a display showing how the civilian population coped with shortages in daily 1940s life and a fully working World War II RAF emergency operations room depicting an air raid by the Luftwaffe over the south coast of England.

Brian Bullock from Worcester Re-enactors said: "Encouraging a love of history and engaging with the public is at the heart of what we do. At Bell square we will be giving people a taste of the Living History event where we will be recreating some fascinating periods of history in a dynamic environment. Come along and find out more."

The Living History event is free for all Commandery cardholders and for those who can show they pay their council tax to Worcester City Council.

There will also be a History Fayre in the Cathedral Cloisters and Chapter House and Tudor House will have a Georgian theme.
