VIKINGS and World War Two soldiers could be seen walking the streets of Worcester alongside other figures from throughout history as the city prepares to be taken over next weekend.

Re-enactors from across the county came to the city centre on Saturday in a bit to encourage people to attend a huge event taking place at historical locations in Worcester.

Dressed in historical uniforms from various periods of time gone by the small group of re-enactors were hoping to get the attention of local people and invite them to their Living History in Worcester event taking place across the coming weekend, Saturday, February 15, and Sunday, February 16.

The event will see residents and visitors treated to an experience covering 2,000 years of history at venues including the Commandery, the Cathedral Cloisters, Chapter House and Tudor House.

David Wormington, one of the re-enactors, said: "This will be one of the biggest events we have done and it is quite big in Worcester.

"Everyone is looking forward to it. It's a multi period event so there will be everything from Greek to Second World War.

"It is surprising how much interest we do get from the public especially families and children.

"It is a very rewarding thing to do when you see other people's enthusiasm. We are enthusiastic about ourselves and it's great to share our passion for brining history to life."

Living History in Worcester is all part of the Love Worcester Heritage Festival and this year marks the events ten-year anniversary and more than 150 re-enactors are set to join in the weekend's activities, which will include show and tell displays, a pre-cinema Victorian magic latern show and there will be a 1940s public house, The Wheatsheaf, open all weekend.
