THE Mayor of Worcester will be hosting a glittering affair of jazz and swing music in aid of her chosen charities.

The Glevum Big Band - a 12-piece jazz and with a keyboard, drums, bass and rhythm guitars, trumpets and alto saxophones - will be playing a variety of jazz and swing hits, including Fly Me To The Mood, Tuxedo Junction and In The Mood at the evening held at The Guildhall, in Worcester, on Friday, February 28.

Councillor Pat Agar will be splitting the money raised from the night between her three mayoral charities and Acorns Children's Hospital.

She said: "I’m pleased to be hosting this event at this beautiful venue and hope to see many people from the local community for a lovely evening.

“It’s important to support local causes which is why half of the profits are going to Acorns, with the other half split between my three chosen mayoral charities, St Paul’s Hostel, Maggs Day Centre and Asha Women’s Centre.”

Carole Crowe, community fundraising officer at Acorns, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for music lovers to enjoy a night out which goes on to benefit others.

“We rely on community support for the majority of our income to provide care and support services for local life limited children, so we are very grateful to be chosen as a beneficiary of this event.”

Tickets, including a glass of wine, cost £10, with all profits going to charity. Tickets are available from the Tourist Information Centre, at The Guildhall, by calling 01905 726311, or for more information on Acorns visit acorns.org.uk.
