It's a snip! Latisha's long locks will be cut off for charity
12:36pm Tuesday 18th February 2014 in News
A KINDHEARTED seven-year old girl will prove she is a cut above by having her long locks cut off for a charity which makes wigs for children with cancer.
Latisha Swainson will be braving the hairdresser's chair next month to have a drastic haircut taking her long flowing brown hair to a short bob for the Little Princess Trust.
The year three Powick CE Primary School pupil came up with the idea of donating her hair to the charity after school friend Lucy Lowe underwent surgery to remove a brain tumour three years ago and was given a wig to disguise the site of the operation.
The surgery was successful and Lucy, now aged 11, is doing well.
Latisha, from Malvern Link, said she was looking forward to the hair cut at Just Hair Design, Worcester Road, Malvern.
She has also managed to raise over £300 on a Just Giving website which will pay for the charity to make the wigs.
Her mum Gemma Swainson said: "Latisha is very thoughtful, caring and likes to think of others.
"She has always talked about having her hair cut for all those little boys and girls who have lost their hair.
"It's halfway down her back and though she loves having long hair she is a young lady now and wants to take control of it."
Latisha has been growing her hair for three years and plans to have about 16 inches cut off on Wednesday, March 12 by hairdresser Jordan Deegan.
Just Hair Design has waived the fee for the haircut.
Speaking about Latisha's decision to have her hair cut for Little Princess Trust, Lucy said: "I think what Latisha is choosing to do is great.
"It's very thoughtful of her to care about other children like this.
"When I was offered a wig I felt relieved and wasn't embarrassed about my hair.
"I hope everyone will give her lots of money to pay for a wig to be made."
