A TEAM of youngsters are busy cycling to Thailand without leaving the four walls of their church to raise funds for a charity trip.

Eleven young people from St Peter's Baptist Church, Eden Close, Worcester, are pedalling 6,000 miles - the distance between the Faithful City and the Far East country - on static bikes in a bid to raise their own fares for youth mission trip to the Kid's Life Ministry children's home in Chiang Mai.

Having set off on Wednesday, the 12 to 18-year-olds, along with five youth leaders, hope to complete the final 100 miles during the 10.45am service on Sunday and they have even received encouragement from Olympic cyclist Sir Chris Hoy.

Youth leader Amy Wearing said the five-time gold medallist sent the youngsters a tweet saying "keep going, you can do it", which caused a lot of exciting in the group

"The children's home we are going to, quite a lot of the young people have sponsored a child there. It's a real opportunity to go out and meet the child or young person they have been sponsoring and get to know them and build relationships."

The youngsters have to raise £1,200 each and the two-week trip is planned to take place in August, when they will be running English classes, summer holiday clubs, leading workshops in the local church and even picking rice in the fields.

The home in Thailand houses 85 youngsters aged three to 18.

Donations can be made by calling into the church and for more information, call the church on 01905 767090.
