A MAN who became trapped between a wall in a shed for two hours has praised the emergency services who got him to safety.

As previously reported in Your Worcester News, firefighters has to carefully remove part of the wall brick by brick to rescue Steve Thomas, who slipped while he was cutting some fir trees back in his parent's garden and became wedged in a 15" gap between the back of a large shed and a wall.

The 34-year-old, who is currently living with his parents in Little Chestnut Street, Arboretum, suffered hypothermia and grazes to his body in the fall which happened on Thursday morning.

Firefighters from Worcester Blue Watch Fire Station, supported by an Urban search and rescue (USAR) team from Droitwich, were called just before 10amafter his worried parents tried in vain for an hour to get him out.

He was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital as a precaution and is now recovering at home.

"I am still shaken by the incident and my memory of it is still a bit hazy," he said. "It was a bit of a shock. I'm quite embarrassed by it. I had stood on the back of our wall, took a step back and over I went.

"I had my trainers on and they have no grip so I must have just slipped. I blacked out but when I came around I was convinced I could get out.

"But I couldn't move, I'm 6' 3" and 16 stone, that's probably why I got stuck down there. I didn't realise how bad it was at first.

"It's been a bit of a blur. I can't remember a lot of it because I hit my head on the way down and knocked myself out for a bit.

"I didn't really know what was going on, the next thing I knew I was on my way to hospital in an ambulance. I've got cuts and bruises all over and can't move my right arm properly yet."

Mr Thomas said he was glad his parents rang the fire brigade, otherwise he could have been there much longer.

"I couldn't believe they brought the fire brigade out but I would have been there all day otherwise," he added.

"I would like to say though the emergency services were beyond exemplary and my heart felt thanks go out to them."
