THE ANCHOR pub will be the appropriate finishing line for two men attempting to steer an open canoe for 100 miles in aid of Sport Relief.

Friends Darren D'Amore and Keith Brown will be boarding a two man canoe from Welshpool, Powys down the river Severn to Worcester.

After two days of furious paddling, there will be light at the end of the tunnel for Mr D'Amore, who runs Home Repair Service in Worcester, and Mr Brown, from Bath.

Pub owner Nic Walsh Gibbons and his wife Kathryn will be holding a party for the pair at The Anchor in Diglis on Friday, March 21 at 8pm with a barbecue, pig roast, live music and raffle in aid of the charity.

Mr D'Amore’s partner Louise is organising the event to take as much weight off the boys' planning and preparation for the rowing.

She said: “I’ll be pleased to see them climbing out of the canoe and drinking their first pint on the 21st at the Anchor but they’re determined to do this and to raise as much money for Sport Relief as they can.

"We’re just hoping the flooding has subsided significantly by then and they are able to see the river on the way downstream.”

A Facebook page has been set so people can follow their training and the plans for the event

The pair have already raised over £150 at their online sonsorship page at my.sportrelief.com/sponsor/severn100.
