AS THE cleanup from the flooding begins, health experts have warned the months of work ahead for some could lead to an increase in depression.

Although things are back to normal for many people in Worcestershire, some residents face a long road as they work to repair the damage to their homes.

A Worcestershire County Council spokesman said the stress of being flooded and the cleanup work could have a significant effect on mental health and wellbeing.

"We have therefore been providing residents and businesses with practical advice and information on what to do before, during and after the floods through our social media channels and website,” she said. “A Business Support Team has also been established, again meeting businesses and farmers to identify needs and source support.

“Each and every householder who has been affected by the floods has been contacted by a Support Team, including an Environmental Health Officer and a Crisis Support UK volunteer who identify needs and source support.

"The community spirit across Worcestershire and people's willingness to help one another has been fantastic and we encourage residents to continue supporting anybody who has been affected by flooding, whilst they get back on their feet."
