A FOOTBALL fun day in aid of a charity supporting people with suffering from multiple sclerosis organised by the granddaughter of a Worcester man who died of was held at the weekend.

The third annual event at King George V Playing Field in Brickfields Road in aid of the Worcester and District branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society was organised by Stacey Gormley in memory of her grandfather Joey, who died in January 2012.

She said she had wanted to give something back to the charity which had supported her and her family during her grandfather’s illness.

“Not only did the charity support him but also us as a family and especially my grandmother,” she said.

“Granddad was a great footballer and spent many years coaching and passing on his skill to his two sons Jason and Karl and many other players in Worcester.”

Worcester mayor Cllr Pat Agar popped by to kick off the event, which included sponsored penalty shoot-outs, raffles, a bouncy castle and other attractions, and said she was “delighted” to see how many people had turned out.

“This is a really lovely community event,” she said.

“It’s a beautiful day and it’s lovely to see everybody getting involved, young and old.

Julie and Sam Sadler from Worcester Community Trust were also on hand to help out at the daytime event, which was followed by an evening of live music and an auction at The Prince of Wales pub in Windermere Drive.
