A WORCESTER doctor and charity founder has been applauded for her work to bring together art and healthcare.

Dr Maggie Keeble founded A Picture for Health last year under the belief that putting artworks in doctor’s surgeries would make the experience of visiting a GP more pleasant and increase patient’s wellbeing.

An exhibition of artworks by artists from the area at the Barbourne Health Centre in Droitwich Road – Dr Keeble’s former practice – was launched on Saturday, March 8, where she said she was delighted by the interest and enthusiasm in the charity and its work.

“When people walk into the Barbourne Health Centre the pictures can transport them to the sunshine of the Mediterranean or help them enjoy the local landscape, flowers and buildings,” she said.

“A recent patient survey of the art exhibitions demonstrated to me just how important and valued this initiative is.

“Long may it continue.”

The current exhibition – the charity’s eighth – will run until May and includes paintings, prints and drawings from a wide range of artists.

Other doctor’s surgeries in the city have expressed an interest in taking part in the project.
