A CAMEO appearance of an Olympic gold medallist and knight of the realm on a long-running radio soap is something to get wheely excited about.

Sir Bradley Wiggins, who struck gold in the cycling time trail at London 2012 and won the Tour de France the same year, is gearing up for a role in BBC Radio 4 soap the Archers as part of this year's Sport Reief

Wiggo, as he is affectionately known, will head to Ambridge to crown the winner as the villagers hold their own Sport Relief fund-raising event on Friday, March 21.

Sir Wiggins said: "When I was asked to record a Sport Relief special for The Archers, there was no way I could turn it down. I grew up with it on the radio in the house, and it's not every day you get to star in the world's longest-running soap opera.

"Meeting the cast, the writer and the director was an honour and I really hope the story line will raise awareness about Sport Relief's amazing work, and that it shows people that everyone can get involved in Sport Relief this year."

The four-time gold medallist, who is a lifelong fan of the show which is believed to based on Inkberrow, near Worcester, also encounters Lynda Snell's rusty old bike during his guest appearance in the show.

The superstar cyclist could also be seen pedalling through Worcester when a stage of the world-renowned Tour of Britain race comes to the Faithful City on Wednesday and Thursday, September 10-11.

Sport Relief sees the British public getting active, having fun and raising cash to help people living incredibly tough lives both in the UK and around the world every two years, and it will be celebrated live on BBC One on Friday, March 21.
