A KIND-hearted Worcester school girl who has never had her hair cut before has had her blonde locks chopped for charity.

Nine-year-old Caitlin Jones, a pupil at St Clement's C of E Primary, St Johns, has only ever had her hair trimmed.

But after being inspired by other fundraising initiatives in school and learning about sick children as part of the curriculum, she decided to have 30 inches cut off in front of her fellow pupils in a recent assembly.

Her good deed has raised £730 for a school in Kenya while her long blonde hair will be donated to the Princess Cancer Trust.

Headteacher Kate Brunt said the youngster was not phased by her haircut at all.

"Her mum was more upset than her," she said. "She just sat there, she didn't bat an eyelid. I just couldn't believe it. She was great, she really was.

"We're looking in the curriculum about poorly children and we talk about how well off we are in terms of health. It's one of our values."

Mrs Brunt said staff and parents who are running 2,014 miles this year for Acorns Children's Hospice has inspired Caitlin and other pupils.

"It's not the first time we've had pupils doing really kind things," she said. "We've had a couple of students doing heroic things. We're incredibly proud. "
