SCISSORS were at the ready as one young girl underwent a dramatic hair cut to raise money and help provide a real-hair wig for a children undergoing cancer treatment.

It was no ordinary trip to the hairdressers for Latisha Swainson when she visited Just Hair Design, Fir Tree Walk, Malvern, to have her long hair cut into a sleek bob.

The year three Powick Primary School pupil had 20 inches cut off her hair which has now been sent to Little Princess Trust to make wigs for children undergoing cancer treatment.

Latisha, from Malvern Link, has also raised £550 online for the Hereford-based charity with money still coming in.

Her mum Gemma said: "I'm definitely proud of her. I think everyone who knows her, especially her family, are saying how proud they are of her.

"People keep saying what a great thing she's done. She's had lots of support and we're still getting sponsorship money given to us.

"She loves her new look. She wants to keep it short now - she loves it."

Latisha decided to have her hair cut for the charity after hearing about how it had supported Lucy Lowe, also a pupil at Powick Primary, after she underwent surgery to remove a brain tumour three years ago.

Lucy was given a wig to disguise the site of the operation.

Latisha's school has held a crazy hair day to also help raise funds and she found herself the centre of attention when she returned to the playground with her new haircut.

"When she went to school she had a lot of friends crowding around saying how wonderful it looks - she was quite overwhelmed.

"We have kept a slither of the hair so she can see how long it was when she gets older."

Lego sent Latisha a Wonder Woman figure after her uncle got in touch with the company and told them what she was doing.
