Worcester News: Watt Fest will shine light on Earth Hour Watt Fest will shine light on Earth Hour

THE final touches are being put together to make this year's ambitious Earth Hour celebrations a shining success.

Volunteers from Worcester Roots Foundation have been busy organising the free celebration at the Angel Centre, Angel Place, Worcester from 6pm to 10pm on Saturday, March 29.

Watt Fest will bring together performances from local bands, dancers and musicians as well as getting across the important message of environmental awareness.

Several Dancefest groups will be putting on a performance, there will be a workshop with Drumlove as well as performances from Ollie Roberts, Jack Seckham, Luke Menel, Kieran Dobson and Charlie Boswell.

Earth hour is an annual international event organised by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) which encourages people to turn off all non-essential lights for an hour at 8.30pm on the last Sunday of March.

The event hopes to get people to consider the impact they have on the environment and Worcester Roots have been running events to highlight the day since 2012.

Project director Tash Giaquinto said: “At Worcester Roots Foundation, our young volunteers enjoy sharing their passion for sustainability with the wider community in a fun and informative way.

"This is very important to both them and the charity as a whole.

"This year’s event, Watt Fest, is going to be the best yet and I encourage everyone to attend and show their support, not only to celebrate WWF's Earth Hour, but also to support the amazing efforts of our young volunteers in organising this event.”
