Subway says sorry for socks in oven
SANDWICH firm Subway is investigating a complaint that a worker dried her socks in a bread oven when her feet got wet on the way to work during the floods.
A regular customer of the St John’s Subway store saw the staff member had posted pictures of her wet socks and gloves in the store’s oven on Twitter and Instagram during last month’s wet weather.
She complained to the store’s manager, who has since apologised.
Jessica Hinton and her son, Cody, were offered vouchers after drawing the manager’s attention to the post, but declined.
“It came to light that a member of staff had gone to work after travelling through the Worcester floods and put her wet socks and gloves in their bread oven,” said 29-year-old Ms Hinton.
“She then took pictures and posted them on Twitter and Instagram.
“I complained and the manager of the store contacted me on my mobile the next morning, stating that he was sorry and would send me vouchers in the post.
“I clearly stated that I would not be going to their store again.
“Later the staff member herself private-messaged me on Facebook, saying how ‘truly sorry’ she and her boss were."
The manager of the St John’s store declined to comment.
Andrea Fleck, development agent for the Subway brand in Worcestershire, said all Subway stores were independently owned and operated.
“We are in the process of investigating the facts at this particular franchise. The Subway brand takes food and product safety extremely seriously,” she said.
