Pupils to launch city clean-up project

First published in News

SOME of the youngest members of the community will be setting an example by reminding their elders to look after their neighbourhood.

The youngsters at Lyppard Grange Primary School in Warndon Villages, Worcester are launching the 2014 Take Pride campaign, led by Worcester City Council.

This year's theme is 'water' with about 30 pupils kicking off the campaign by carrying out a litter pick next to the Lyppard Grange Nature Reserve ponds next Wednesday (26th).

A city council ranger will then be on hand to clear the ponds of debris.

Last year, about 200 volunteers took part in Take Pride clean-up events across Worcester.

“Take Pride has quite literally tackled some of the city’s grottiest problems,” says Cllr Matt Lamb, cabinet member for a Cleaner and Greener City.

“From litter picking to tackling dog mess and graffiti, from planting trees and plants to ensuring birds and animals aren’t endangered by our rubbish, our volunteers have left no stone unturned in their pursuit of cleaning up Worcester.”

Let this be an example to all those who constantly drop litter. Shame it isn't the offenders picking it up.

Quite agree skychip its a disgrace the mess left by lazy idle people who have no repect for there surroundings, i was at county hall the other day and the 6th form students who had there lunch on the benches by the lake just walked off and left empty packets and plastic bottles on the floor and yet there was a waste bin less than 10 yards away, lazy *******s,
If caught fine them with a big fine and put it on record so that when applying for a job later it will show against them, i think that will stop so much of this that costs us taxpayers.
