AN AMATEUR chef from Worcester got the chance to learn how to make the perfect pie from celebrity chef James Martin last week.

Sarah Kent entered a competition to win a cookery masterclass with the TV personality while tucking into a meal at the Robin Hood in Rashwood, Droitwich, and was one of seven lucky winners invited to spend the day at London culinary studio Aveqia.

The 34-year-old spent the morning on Friday, March 21 getting tips from the chef before enjoying a three-course meal with the celeb, who has presented programmes including James Martin’s Food Map of Britain and The Great British Budget Menu

She said she was “absolutely overwhelmed” to win the competition.

“I entered the competition after enjoying a meal at the Robin Hood in Droitwich as I really wanted to be in with a chance of winning a master class with such a great chef,” she said.

“The whole day was a great experience and I cooked food that I never thought I would cook, especially under the expert eye of James.”

The competition was run by Vintage Inns as part of British Pie Week at the start of March and invited diners to send in pictures of themselves tucking into tasty pies over social media.

Mr Martin said he was impressed with Sarah’s culinary skills.

“During the master class Sarah learnt some really valuable kitchen skills and really came into her own when it came to flavouring her dishes,” he said.

“I hope she continues practising in the kitchen as she’ll become a great cook.”
