A WOMAN has used the changing scenery on her doorstep to continue supporting a community in west Africa.

Jane Smith, of Longridge Road, Malvern, is the founder of the Just Act Gambia charity and her latest photobook, entitled Through the Year Around Malvern Common, charts the changing of seasons to support the small river island community of Janjanbureh in the Gambia.

Mrs Smith has previously produced a 2014 calendar and a photobook, entitled Malvern Common in Spring and Summer, and the proceeds from their sales have gone to the charity which promotes sustainable tourism and community training.

During 2013 she raised almost £5,000 for the cause and the charity now has a fully established youth group, with plans for a cultural centre coming together.

Mrs Smith said: "It really is making a huge difference because I think we are in at just the right time."

She added: "It covers a full year, a wider area and is hopefully of a better quality.

The photobooks has been printed by the Coaster Company in Spring Lane South and is available from the Malvern Book Cooperative, St Ann's Road, priced £10.
