THOSE who are blind are being reminded they are entitled to a half price TV licence.

Last year almost 40,000 cut price licences were issued across the country with live-in carers or family members also able to benefit.

A blind concession TV licence costs £72.75 for colour and £24.50 for a black and white set.

“If you live with someone who is severely sight-impaired, they are entitled to a blind concession TV licence which is half the price of a full fee licence," said Mark Binnersley, spokesperson for TV licensing in the West Midlands.

"This will cover you, as well as anyone else living in your household."

TV licensing has been working with the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) to secure a cheaper deal for those with limited vision.

"TV continues to be a popular form of entertainment for many people with sight loss, thanks in part to recent improvements in talking TV programme guides," said Andy Barrick, head of membership and information services at RNIB.

“We would encourage blind people to apply for their reduced TV licence if they haven’t already done so."
