SILENCE was golden for Cub Scouts who hope to bring in the pounds to raise funds for their group camp in June.

Youngsters from 16th Worcester Scout Group, based at St Martin's Church Hall, have been busy raising money for the group camp at Rhydd Covert Scout Campsite in Bewdley.

Scouts have been busy bag packing in Tesco, St Peter's to raise over £500 while the Beaver colony held a sponsored Olympics during one of their meetings which raised over £100.

The youngsters who make up the group's Cub pack were given a less physical but perhaps more demanding challenge of being silent for one hour at Tuesday evening's meeting.

Keeping busy with books and activities, the hour flew by and they managed to raise over £250.

Hazel Tyrrell, group scout leader, said: "Knowing the pack very well, it was difficult to do as I am sure that everyone knows that they have a lot to say at the ages between eight and 10 and a half years of age."

The Scout troop will also be helping to raise funds with a sponsored swim on Friday, May 2.

"As the group scout leader, I am very proud to be the manager of this exciting and growing group of young people and leaders.

"If you know a young person or an adult who would like to join me then please contact me on hazelgsl16thworcs@btinternet.com for more details.

"There is always room for another one so come join the adventure."
