WATER bosses have fitted new pipes in Worcester and thanked people for their patience over traffic disruption caused by ongoing work.
Severn Trent Water has installed 400 metres of pipes in the city's Bath Road and St Peter’s Drive.
Jonathan Tait, from Severn Trent, said: “When pipes become old, they can become brittle and easily break. This in turn leads to a loss of supply for our customers. Investing in new pipes means we can give a better service to them for many years to come.
“We’d like to thank the people of Worcester for their patience, as this work coincided with emergency sewer investigation work in the Upper Tything area and at the junction of Henwick Road and Hylton Road. We know how frustrating it can be when we’re carrying out work in neighbouring areas, but unfortunately sometimes emergencies happen when we are already carrying out planned work nearby.
“When we carry out work, we do everything we can to try to minimise disruption to the local community. On these projects we’ve been working closely with Worcestershire County Council and took the decision to suspend work during the recent floods, to try to keep Worcester as open to traffic as possible.
“All of this work is really important to make sure Worcester’s toilets and taps keep working. When an emergency happens, we have to act quickly to make sure service to our customers continues as usual. Although this has unfortunately meant disruption for commuters and locals, most of the work should be finished by the end of the April and they should feel the benefits for a long time.”
