THIEVES have unsuccessfully tried to rip out a freestanding cash machine in Barnard's Green, Malvern this morning.

A metal cable was attached to a Mitsubishi, believed to be a L200, as the would-be thieves tried to pull the machine out of the ground at about 2.30am.

They tried for ten minutes to remove the machine but drove off after their efforts proved unsuccessful.

The cash machine is on Barnard's Green Road outside TP Worldwide Travel.

The Mitsubishi is thought to have driven towards Geraldine Avenue and a black Ford Focus is thought to have driven off towards Guarlford Road.

It is possible both cars later met up on Guarlford Road.

Two people, believed to be male, are thought to have carried out the attempted theft, both were wearing balaclavas and one was wearing a light coloured body warmer.

The police helicopter has been flying over the area and scenes of crime officers have been investigating.

Police officers have been speaking to shop owners as well as carrying out CCTV inquiries.
