A TEENAGER who was arrested on Monday in connection with an incident in which a woman was sexually assaulted is due to appear in court this morning charged with sexual assault.

The 19-year-old was arrested after a teenage woman was assaulted after leaving a nightclub early on Friday, April 11.

The victim left Velvet Lounge in Angel Place just before 1.55am and walked home via The Butts, Farrier Street and Cherry Tree Walk.

As she approached the railway arches at the junction with Infirmary Walk she became aware a man was following her.

He approached her and grabbed her by the hand before putting his arms around her and lifting her off her feet, causing her to fall backwards onto the ground.

He climbed on top of her, sexually assaulted her and attempted to kiss her, but because she was struggling and shouting he gave up and ran off towards Farrier Street.

The arrested man is due to appear at Redditch Magistrates Court this morning to answer the charges.
