CATWALK looks fashioned out of secondhand clothing will prove Guides have model behaviour when it comes to recycling on Wednesday, May 7.

The 3rd Areley Kings Girl Guide unit, based in Stourport, has fully embraced the 'waste not, want not' motto by launching a fashion show featuring the girls wearing recycled, reused and repurposed clothing.

The event at Areley Kings Methodist Church has been organised by Guide leader Helen Winter, a customer service advisor at Droitwich bin manufacturer Taylor which has donated £100.

She came up with the idea for a fashion show after challenging each of the patrol groups to make a party outfit, a piece of headwear and a Guide uniform fit for the future out of recyclable materials.

She said: “As someone who works in the waste industry, I’m very aware how reusing and recycling can be a great route to reducing the amount of waste we send to landfill.

"The girls have relished the opportunity and the results are fantastic. Who knows, we may even set future trends with our bespoke bin bag clothing.”

All money raised will be used to help fund an international self-development trip for young leader Jess Jaye who is representing the Girlguiding Worcestershire and Midland region.

The16-year-old said: “It’s been so much fun to work on this project and has made me and all the other girls in the unit realise just what you can create out of bits that most people would usually throw away.

"We’re really pleased with what we’ve created and we hope the public will be, too.”

Tickets for the show, which begins at 7.30pm to 8.30pm, cost £5 and includes a goody bag containing one-off handmade items.

They can bought on the door or by emailing Helen at areleykingsguides@hotmail.co.uk.
