PERSHORE Choral Society will be joined by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in a concert being held in the town's Abbey next week.

The musicians, who perform in concerts halls around the world, are giving up one of their nights off to accompany Pershore Choral Society as it puts on its annual spring concert.

At first the identity of the orchestra remained a closely guarded secret but it has since been revealed days before the concert, which takes place on Saturday, May 10, from 7.30pm.

Ron Haden, chairman of Pershore Choral, said: "I suppose at first it was rather like Keith Richards or Ronnie Woods from the Rolling Stones keeping their heads down after agreeing to turn out and play for a local rock band somewhere but, in the end, it has turned out to be more like a mystery solved by Hercule Poirot.

"We are just very pleased we have managed to secure the services of musicians of this calibre to accompany us and their contribution will doubtless add greatly to what promises to be an outstanding musical occasion for our fine amateur choir."

The concert is being conducted by Pershore Choral's Musical Director, Carleton Etherington.
