THE Worcester Volunteer Centre is appealing for people to lend a hand to their clients and the shopping service they offer them.

The assistance service is aimed at helping older people or those with a disability with their weekly shopping needs.

Now the project is expanding thanks to a grant from Lloyds TSB Foundation and the volunteer centre is looking to help more clients in Worcester city and the surrounding area.

Sharon Wright who has run the shopping and gardening service for the last seven years said: "We are very proud of our volunteers. We also often find they develop close friendships with our clients and a keen sense of satisfaction in giving back to the community."

And an unknown client added: "Thank you for finding me such a special shopper, he shows kindness and concern to ensure I get my shopping in. Beyond all this he has become a great friend to me."

All volunteers are DBS (formerly CRB) checked, vetted and trained, before shopping for any clients.
