A TALENTED 18 year old Worcester violinist has won the 2014 Hereford Police Male Choir's Young Musician's Bursary.

Dayna Townsend, a pupil at Worcester Sixth Form College, beat seven other young musicians to win the £850 bursary which is sponsored by the Beckett Bulmer Fund.

She intends to use the money to pay for violin master classes.

Dayna, from St Peter's, has won a scholarship to study music at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff.

She is leader of Worcestershire Youth Orchestra and also a member of the National Youth Orchestra.

The bursary was established by the police choir eight years ago to help young musicians in the two counties develop a career in music.

Alison Houlbrooke, musical director of the choir and chairwoman of the adjudicators, said: "We had the privilege of listening to eight very talented young musicians, each worthy of winning the bursary.

"Dayna was an exceptional candidate and has a great future ahead of her as a violinist."
