A GROUP of volunteers armed with brooms and bin bags scrubbed and scoured a city street until it was sparkling.

The hardworking volunteers along with cleaning teams from Worcester City Council set about giving Shrubbery Avenue, Barbourne, a deep street clean.

Green Party county councillor Matthew Jenkins decided to organise Thursday morning's clean up after hearing from a resident who was concerned about the area.

Parking was restricted along the road during the deep clean so the teams could do a thorough job.

Cllr Jenkins thanked Deborah Merrick from Worcester City Council for helping to organise the street clean.

The St Stephen's ward councillor also thanked cleaning staff and the three residents who helped with the clean up.

He said: "It was a very worthwhile event and one that I hope to replicate on other roads in my division.

"It's particularly beneficial in those areas that have lots of on-street parking and so miss out on a proper street clean.

"My message to other residents in St Stephen is, if you think your road could benefit from a similar deep clean then let me know and I would be happy to help arrange it."
