AN illustrated talk will explore how Elgar's best known composition was choreographed for the Royal Ballet.

Donald Hunt leads the event, entitled Frederick Ashton's ballet Engima Variations, at the Elgar Birthplace Museum, Lower Broadheath, near Worcester, on Tuesday, May 13 from 10.30am.

British dancer and choreographer Sir Frederick Ashton choreographed the composer's piece for the Royal Ballet and Tony Dyson, who is copyright owner of Sir Frederick Ashton’s Enigma Variations ballet, will tell the captivating story of Elgar’s composition as a ballet.

Mary Duffy, the museum's marketing officer, said: “Elgar’s Enigma Variations has had many interpretations over the years but Frederick Ashton’s ballet must be one of the most endearing.

"We are delighted that Tony Dyson, a friend of Ashton, will be telling us the background and stage history of Elgar’s Enigma Variations as a ballet.”

Tickets are £6, including interval refreshments, and advance booking is advisable.
