AN OVERGROWN junction onto a busy dual carriageway north of Worcester has been described as "terrifying and highly dangerous".

Julia Letts of Knoll Farm near Martin Hussingtree contacted your Worcester News seriously concerned about the state of the junction in the middle of the A449 just south of Ombersley.

She said the vegetation in the centre of the road had become so overgrown that drivers could not see far enough ahead to safely join the main road.

“You literally have to take your life into your own hands to cross the road,” she said.

“In order to see if the road is clear, you have to edge out into the oncoming traffic which is hurtling towards you at 60 mph.

“It is terrifying and highly dangerous.”

She said she had contacted Worcestershire County Council’s highways department twice in the past two weeks to report the problem but nothing had been done.

“I have stressed the urgency and the seriousness of the situation at this crossing point,” she said.

“I have not even had an acknowledgement of my reports.

“I couldn’t live with myself if someone was killed, and they easily could be if the council doesn’t cut the vegetation enabling drivers to see the oncoming traffic.”

Mrs Letts said the same situation seems to arise every year, saying: “You would have thought that highways might have learned by now that cow parsley grows in May”.

The county council's cabinet member with responsibility for highways Cllr John Smith said the problem would be dealt with as a matter of urgency.

"We would like to thank members of the public for bringing this to our attention," he said.

The Claines roundabout on the A449 has the same problem. Looks like the County Council have been skimping on the grass cutting on this road.

It's a problem in many parts of the county. What's needed is someone with a horse who is willing to let it graze in these areas. Oh wait....

Hurtling towards you at 70mph... It's a dual carriageway. 60mph is for single carriageways.
