A student from New College Worcester has been putting her talent to the test.

Chessie Marley, a sixth former at the college for blind and partially sighted students, hopes to reach the grand final of the TeenStar competition for young singers.

Chessie performed Katy B's Crying for No Reason before going through to the area final this month.

The student who is currently studying A-Level Music, specialising in Piano and vocal performance, now hopes to be at the NEC final in Birmingham in July.

She said: "It’s always been my dream to be singer and I thought the TeenStar competition was the perfect way to get some experience of singing in front of a live audience.

"The atmosphere was amazing and I had so much support from my family and friends at NCW.”

The TeenStar competition sees more than 8,000 singers perform in front of a judging panel of record producers, Radio DJs and former pop stars.

Former winners include X Factor contestants such as Luke Friend and Lucy Spraggan who have gone on to sign with major record labels.
