A school jazz band with an average age of 12 has reached the finals of the National Youth Music Festival.

The Groove Diggers is made up of pupils from Winterfold House School in Chaddesley Corbett and all the members are aged 13 and below.

The regional rounds of the festival were held in Shrewsbury in March and judges described the group’s performance as ‘simply spine-tingling’.

All the final acts have been selected from children up to 18 years of age from the entire country and the Groove Diggers will be performing at Birmingham Town Hall in July.

The band is made up of pupils Archie Batham-Read, 12, George Lloyd Jones, 12, Archie Holder, 12, Archie Kimberley, 13, Frank Coughlan, 12, Alfie Harvey-Gilson,12, Alexander Bolton,12, Freddie Harvey-Gilson,11, Heidi Collie,13 and Florence Needham,13.

Also in the band is Lucie Fletcher,12, Madeleine Bache,13, Layla Raine,12, Ben Hollingworth,11, Oliver Trigg, 11, William Bellamy, 13, Joseph Miszkowski, 11, Reuben Virk,11, Grace Williams, 12 and Taylor Williams, 12.
