AN unsigned singer-songwriter proved to be a huge hit with fans of an American pop star.

Abby Inez lived her teenage dream by warming up the crowd at the LG Arena in Birmingham ahead of Katy Perry's concert as part of her Prismatic World Tour on Wednesday, May 14.

Last month, the 18-year-old former Worcester Sixth Form College student scored an unexpected hit on iTunes when her debut EP, Say What You Think, reached number seven on the singer-songwriter chart, sitting just behind Ed Sheeran's Lego House.

The 18-year-old of Primsland, Droitwich, said: "The arena was holding 14,000 people that night , so I had those all walking through. So at any one time I could have a couple of hundred people watching me to 2,000 people watching me.

"The gig was amazing and I loved performing all my songs to such a great crowd. I had everyone coming up and getting a CD - I ran out of them within 10 minutes."

Abby added: "The highlight was at the end when I had a queue of people waiting for me to take pictures with them and signing autographs. That was just so surreal , such an amazing feeling."

Abby is currently on a gap year to pursue a career in music.

She has been writing her own songs since the age of 14 and plays both the guitar and piano, with her sound sitting within the country and folk genres.

Crafting her own catchy pop songs, she is heavily influenced by artists such as Taylor Swift, Gabrielle Aplin and the Band Perry.
