DRIVERS nationwide are set to enjoy better journeys this bank holiday weekend as 98% of England's motorways and A-roads are due to be free of roadworks.

By Friday, May 23, 180 miles of roadworks are set to be completed, with 145 miles of roadworks are being suspended until Tuesday, May 27, across the country by the Highways Agency.

In Worcestershire, on the M50 junction one and two near Tewkesbury and Ledbury, bridge inspections and three miles of roadworks are scheduled to be completed in time for the bank holiday.

Simon Sheldon-Wilson, Director of Traffic Management at the Agency, said:"To help road users enjoy this bank holiday weekend – and hopefully some fine weather – we will be completing or suspending over 320 miles of roadworks on motorways and major trunk roads.

" But we still ask people to plan their journeys by making use of the traffic information services we provide.”

A record amount of money is being invested in roads to reduce congestion and improve the condition of its networks.

Lane restrictions and temporary speed lights will be staying in at 30 locations place for safety reasons.
