A MUSICAL duo are aiming to put the soul back into the Faithful City.

Worcester was a major centre for soul music in the late 60s and early 70s, with venues attracting fans from across the UK and John Ambler and Chris Burton want the city to become the place to go again.

They hope the Worcester Soul All-Nighter, which runs from 9pm on Saturday, May 31 to 6am on Sunday, June 1 at the Pear Tree, University of Worcester, will be the first in a series of regular event.

Mr Ambler said: "There is a major film out later this summer based on the time when I used to go to Wigan perhaps this will be a catalyst to make Northern Soul the next big thing in music.

"I've been off the scene for many years but in 2013 I went to some soul nights and realised it's bigger than ever. We have just got older but still love the music."

The DJ line-up includes Keith Minshall and John Vincent playing the rarest records now and from past top venues such as the Twisted Wheel in Manchester, the Blackpool Mecca and Wigan Casino.

Food and drink will be served all night and record dealers will also be present.

Tickets are £13.
