A TRAILBLAZING psychology textbook focusing on lesbian, gay, transsexual and bisexual people co-written by a University of Worcester professor has won a prestigious award.
Professor of psychology and social change Elizabeth Peel co-wrote Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Queer Psychology: An Introduction, which recently won the textbook category in the British Psychological Society’s Book Awards.
Professor Peel said she was “delighted” by the award.
“It marks a coming of age of the field in British psychology,” she said.
“We wrote the book because we were all teaching sexualities courses and there was no textbook in the area.
“I hope that this award encourages further engagement with diversity issues in psychology teaching in higher education.”
Following the accolade Professor Peel was invited to deliver a lecture at the British Psychological Society’s annual conference in Birmingham earlier this month.
The book is published by Cambridge University Press and was written alongside three other professors from the University of the West of England, Sheffield Hallam University and Flinders University in Australia.
