THIS year’s Worcestershire Way Walk, a 31 mile trek in aid of St Richard’s Hospice, is looking for participants to take part to raise money for the cause.

The walk begins at 6am on Friday, June 20, in Bewdley and walkers will take in the Worcestershire countryside before finishing on the slopes of the Malvern Hills.

More than 50 walkers have already signed up for the event, which will be the second time Simon Burkes, 43, till take part.

Mr Burkes chose to support St Richard’s Hospice after his mother, Chris, 63, from Kidderminster, was cared for in the hospice three years ago.

“My family and I were blown away by the care and support provided to my Mom, and also to my family, by everyone at the hospice,” he said.

“From the moment she entered the building it was clear St Richard’s was special.”

As it is Mr Burkes’ second time taking part in the event, he has firsthand experience of the highs and lows and lows of the walk.

Mr Burkes said: “The highlights for me are the stunning views en route, the camaraderie and the excellent food shops – especially the cakes at Abberley.

“The hardest point is when you can see the Malvern Hills but they are not getting any closer.”

Entry costs £10, but relies on sponsorship and donations to be successful.
