UPDATE: A 20-YEAR-OLD man who was arrested in connection with a fatal Worcester car crash has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

This morning Police confirmed they were continuing an investigation into the accident in Bilford Road, Worcester, which happened at 2.30am Sunday morning and killed 20-year-old Ant Rogers.

FULL STORY: A 20-YEAR-OLD man was in police custody yesterday evening in connection with a fatal car crash that left one passenger dead.

The man was arrested in the early hours of yesterday on suspicion of being unfit to drive through drink or drugs, following the incident in Bilford Road, Worcester, at around 2.30am, which killed a 20-year-old man, named locally as Ant Rogers.

The suspect was taken into custody yesterday afternoon.

Tributes have since been paid to Mr Rogers, who is believed to be from Hallow but was living in Worcester.

The former Chantry High School pupil was praised for his footballing skills, and many said how much they would miss him.

On Twitter a ream of messages were left.

The tragic accident happened shortly before 2.30am Sunday morning near the junction with the Worcester Recycling Centre.

The car is said to have left the road and collided with a bollard on Bilford Road, which was then closed until 7.54am.

Alongside Mr Rogers in the black Peugeot 206 were two other passengers in the rear of the car, one male and one female, and the driver, a male, aged 20.

All three attended Worcestershire Royal Hospital for further assessment and treatment.

West Midlands Ambulance Service sent three ambulances, two responder paramedics and a MERIT trauma doctor to the scene.

A spokeswoman for the service said: “Crews arrived to find a car which had left the road and collided with a lamppost.

“One passenger, a man, was in cardiac arrest. He was pulled from the wreckage before ambulance staff and the doctor commenced CPR at the roadside.

"Sadly, despite their best efforts, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead on scene.

“Two other passengers were treated by ambulance staff at the scene. One suffered no apparent injuries whilst the other sustained suspected wrist and ankle fractures.

“Due to the nature of the incident, both were fully immobilised before being taken by land ambulance to Worcestershire Royal Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”

Police said the arrested man was in police custody when your Worcester News went to press.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward by calling 101 and quoting reference number 79S-25-05-14.
