NURSES and staff from a Worcester hospital are strapping on their running shoes to raise money for cancer research.

The team from Spire South Bank Hospital in Bath Rad will be running in this Sunday's Worcester 10k for Macmillan Cancer Support to mark the opening of the site's new oncology and haematology suite.

Claire Constanduros and Dominica McAndrew are two members of the team and said they were looking forward to taking on the challenge.

"A 10k run seemed like the perfect challenge for us to get fit, have fun and raise money for this great cause," they said.

"We have all trained hard and we would like to thank everyone who has sponsored us.

"We can’t wait to get running on Sunday”.

The cash raised will go towards Macmillan's work to fund specialist nurses working within the NHS and other services.

The charity's fundraising manager for Worcestershire Kelly Whitehouse said she was "delighted" the team had decided to support Macmillan.

"No one should have to face cancer alone and with the support of partners like this they won’t have to," she said.

“We would like to thank Spire South Bank Hospital for supporting us and we are looking forward to working with the staff and patients in the future.”
