VISITORS to The Hive later this month will be able to learn more about the history and culture of Gypsies, Roma and other travelling communities.

A free event will be held at the venue from 10am until 4pm on Sunday June 22 featuring a range of displays and materials celebrating the rich culture of the communities, one of the largest ethnic minorities in Worcestershire, while challenging negative stereotypes.

Storytellers and historians will be on hand to talk about how travelling communities lived both in the past and today and visitors will be able to see a two-third scale Gypsy caravan named Bita Rawni – which means Little Lady in Romani – built, carved and painted by two volunteers from Hartlebury Castle.

The free event is organised by the Worcestershire Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Partnership, which aims to improve services and opportunities for the communities in the county.

The partnership’s chairman Tony Henderson said: “Bringing together such a diverse mixture of service providers and members of the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller community provides an environment that promotes greater understanding between communities.

“It’s sure to be a great day for everyone.”
